A3 sedan will start at 29k. CLA starts at 29k. For 3k more you get RWD + ~30 more hp. Win win for BMW IMO
CLA starts at 29.9k + destination $900 so it really starts at 31K

If it is any indication, I recently received an X1 xDrive 28i loaner for 3 days while my car was in for servicing. I was beyond impressed with the responsiveness of both this motor and the 8 speed transmission. I am certain that a 228i M-Sport will be a sweet car, only problem is that it will be hard to test drive a 228i M-Sport in manual.

So yea, there's plenty of things BMW can still do to the 2er to make it a "real" M (while jacking up the price). Engine wise, that's a different story.

$44k isn't "that" bad considering that's about what the 135iS is going for. HOWEVER, considering the 228i is a whopping $11k cheaper, then it makes you think. And it's not like that car is slow either. 5.4s used to be supercar territory 15 years ago haha. Oh and not that many people care, but mid 30 mpg highway too. Do a European Delivery and this thing might come out to low 30s with a few options!

Not too shabby at all. The only thing I hope is that I don't need to get 3 packages just to get xenons.

If they make an M2 and drop a twin turbo'd N55 (Basically the S55 in the M4), This will make this the perfect enthusiast car and all my dreams will finally be answered. Either that or they're going to drop a bigger turbo on the N55 or detune the S55. Either way I'll be happy as long as they make one!

The price guide has been out for the CLA45. It definitely will be a more expensive car, as it should. If a M2 comes out, it will be comparable in price to the CLA45. Not to mention getting a BMW near invoice is the norm. Good luck doing that on the CLA45 right now.

I don't see that happening honestly. I'd be surprised, really shocked, to see a M2 in the next two years. Not with all the cars BMW is currently offering.

Scott said it would be at least two years...so we will see - there haven't been any spy shots of test mules, so if there is one, it's very very early in the game

TOTALLY NOT OFFICIAL SPECS

But obtainable?

I like where you're going with this. With the CLA AMG, and S3 sporting 4 cylinders I can see a future M2 sporting 4 piston mill as well.

But let's hope they put a defined s55 in it . Tuners dream.

True dat - he's not always right - I'm just saying that was the last thing he has said repeatedly about the timing IF it were to happen.

Really though, on the part of BMW, why would they build an M2? The gap between models is closing. I just don't see how they can financially say it's a good idea. So many different models now, it just takes away the market from other BMW models.

M2 would seriously hold all the values that BMW stand for. It's very likely though, due to the success of the 1M.

I don't want an overweight car, I want a small, well-handling that is well balanced and fast. (Porsche-like). And it's been a while since BMW created anything legendary (besides the i8, but I don't count that bc it's hybrid). The M2 would all of that and much more.

Just imagine the specs!!

-rwd
-~3000lbs
-twin turbo inline 6 providing ~400hp
-LSD
-Wider wheels
-Wide body kit
-Better cooling mechanisms
-Bigger brakes

All that sums it up to a track beast. The only problem with this is that it'll overlap into m3/4 territory with the horsepower ):

I think they would have to make it quite different from the M235 - which is why a 4 banger makes sense. The M235 would be the more comfortable but fast car - the M2 would be the much more raw, still faster, and less comfortable. The true enthusiast M car.

That's the case I would make anyway.

I want the M2 with a straight 6 even if the car weight an extra 50 lbs.

Except for the rear upper portion and the tail light I don`t think there is much to dislike about the M235i. Many new clever and practical features. Especially the LSD

I don't think it will have either. More like a tuned N55 and then emphasis on weight savings, lsd, dct, etc. Similar how the 1M had a tuned N54. The thing with the CLA45 and S3, their lower counterparts don't have an inline 6 turbo.

Is it safe to assume that a 3er sedan to a 5er sedan is like the 2er coupe to the 4er coupe?

There is a significant price difference between the 3 and 5, however, a very marginal price difference between the 2 and 4.

I was really hoping for a lower price. This price is so close to the 4 series, it's quite odd.

If BMW, and I'm thinking more if, I would say a very limited production then, much like the 1M.

Especially with the "dream" specs most people here want, it'll never happen. It would take too much market share away from the M235, get too close to M3/M4 specs. IMHO, the gap between the models is getting smaller.

I would say if the M235 didn't exist and was just a normal 235, then maybe we would see an M2. I just don't think so anymore.

Maybe I'm wrong, I know that'll make a lot of people happy.
