Acceleration times

I was wondering whether BMW had uprated the 335d by fitting twin variable turbos to the new all-alu 330D engine, so checked out the latest 3 series catalog on the BMW UK website

Under 0-62 mph sprint times I noted the following:

330D 6.1 [6.2]
335D [6.0]
330D 5.9 [6.0] (x-drive)

I was surprised to find the x-drive offered faster acceleration (due to extra drive train losses and weight). Must come down to superior traction

If it isn't a typo, then obviously the new drag strip weapon of choice would seem to be a re-mapped 330d x-drive. Hmmm

Not really mate, because the ratios are the same, you can luanch the rwd really well if you know what your doing.

Most average people cant launch 4wd, so it will be slower with joe average off the line, with a top driver the 4wd will launch well.

Remember infact most 335d's when tested by mags, and also over the drag strip were hitting 0-60 in 5.6-5.7.

There are more than likely different ratios in the gear box (not final drive). It'll be a different design - to incorporte a take-off shaft to the front wheels. I'd imagine lower geared in the first few gears to offset the extra mechanical drag.

Any figues on the gear box ratios ?

Mayeb dave.

Even so, on a motorway slip road, the 2wd will power past the 4wd.
The Xi 335 trap times are 3-4mph slower than the 2wd versions.
