Sadly, I've noticed the other day I appear to have an oil leak on my 2011 320D. From a brief look it appears to be coming from the valve cover/rocker cover. I would probably say the gasket is gone and needs replacing. From what I've seen/read it shouldn't be a difficult job... Just labour intensive with an estimated work time of 2-4 hours given the many things that need to come off before you can even remove the cover.

Now I just wondered, what does everything think when it comes to replacing the plastic cover at the same time? I mean they're plastic and the car is 15 years old now. With the heat/cold cycles I can't image the cover lasts forever. Given how labour intensive it is to get everything off, are them any other preventive maintenance tasks I should do at the same time? This will be my first valve cover gasket on a BMW, so as a self educated enthusiast I'm actually weirdly looking forward to it when I get some dry weather.
